The statesmanship and good leadership we expect from our president Nana Akufo-Addo exhibiting in his unreserved public speech can be described as an albatross on our neck. The president’s remarks and exchanges on national issues as the elected leader for all can best be described as reckless and bizarre.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National communication team member Dela Edem stated this statement on Simpieso’s political show on Ahotor 92.3 FM in Accra hosted by Emmanuel Martey (Alaska De Don).
He said the economic and financial loss the spillage has brought on people is very challenging where individuals’ investment in fishing farming, retail business, and hospitalities is very heartbreaking and painful.
He is of the view that the team of engineers, sector minister, and Volta River Authority’s timely negligence in their duty has caused a lot of huge loss to the state and individual households.
Dela Edem opined that the engineer’s act of wrongly timely response to education and engagement of the communities to move to safe places was delayed to save lives and properties.
Recounting an investment of a fish farmer, he stated that an investment of about 48 thousand dollars has been lost through this spillage is very unfortunate through this manmade disaster and not through a natural disaster.
Speaking on the same platform Jeff Ashley a Social activist, stated that, the country must rise up and fight the course of their rights to sue Volta River Authority for this corporate negligence of the role to protect lives and properties.
He is of the view that he is disappointed in the leadership of the country for not being up to the task of managing the country which is going through hard economic hardship.
In addition, the manmade disaster from the VRA is the last straw that has collapsed the local economy where individual investment has been destroyed through the spillage is very unfortunate.
