The Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) is calling on the Government to broaden the tax net rather than overburden private businesses with harmful taxes and policies.
FABAG argues that the current taxes are affecting businesses as they place a heavy burden on a small number of formal sector businesses while many informal sector businesses are able to invade taxes which is creating an uneven playing field making it difficult for businesses to compete.
According to FABAG, there are thirty taxes and levies imposed on products imported into the country which is collapsing businesses in the country.
They are calling on the government to scrap some of the taxes in the 2024 budget. The Executive Chairman of FABAG John Awuni made this known to the media.
