SAFEGUARDING THE AGEING POPULATION IN GHANA – GGPA TELLS GOVERNMENT

The Ghana Government Pensioners Association (GGPA) has appealed to the government to improve the compensation of workers to ensure a better retirement plan. National Secretary of the Ghana Government Pensioners Association(GGPA) Joe Quist stated this at the United Nations (UN) International Day of Older Persons in Accra.

Earlier this year, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) increased pension benefits by an average of 25% as part of its annual pension indexation.
Monthly minimum wage figures are calculated as daily minimum wage × 27 days.

Where a worker in an undertaking works after the hours of work fixed by the rules of that undertaking, the additional hours done shall be regarded as overtime work.

Notwithstanding, a worker may be required to work beyond the fixed hours of work without additional pay in certain exceptional circumstances including accidents threatening human lives or the very existence of the undertaking.
Speaking at an event marking the United Nations (UN) International Day of Older Persons in Accra, the national secretary of the Ghana Government Pensioners Association (GGPA) Joe Quist called on the government to strengthen various measures aimed at safeguarding the aging population in Ghana.
