The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice has marked 30 years of its existence.
As part of the celebration, the commission says because of the situation we find ourselves in a large corruption, situation in the country, and there is a need for the institution to work hard.
We must look at wealth disclosure as a typical prevention measure.
According to the Commissioner for CHRAJ, Joseph Whittal the commission is disappointed with all governments the way they push corruption cases underground when they are in power is not justified.
Hence there is a need to strengthen the asset declaration regime, and effective sanctioning regime in the country.
Commissioner for CHRAJ, Joseph Whittal said there is a need to pass the Conduct of Public Officers Bill in order to handle these cases effectively.
“How can you fight corruption when the bill has not been passed as a tool to fight corruption”.
So we put together the Public Conduct Bill with the hope that the government will pass it through parliament. We have an asset disclosure regime that does not seem to be preventive enough’ ’he added.
