The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to return to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
This comes after the NDC expressed numerous concerns over the usage of the new Constitutional Instrument (CI) by the Electoral Commission (EC) in its ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
The main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has boycotted an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to review the 2020 general elections.
The party took this decision because of the lack of honesty, odious duplicity, and open bias that was displayed by the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission in favor of the New Patriotic Party in the conduct of the 2020 general elections, in a statement issued by then General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
The NDC has thoroughly examined the dubious role the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission played in the rigging of the 2020 general Elections.
He added that moving forward, the party shall review its working relationship with the electoral management body and take appropriate steps to forestall the rigging of any future Elections in the country.
Speaking at a round table discussion organized by a coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Accra, the NPP’s Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, opined that the NDC’s return to IPAC would be the surest way, by which their concerns could be heard.
Evans Nimako stated that, if you look at the current CI, 91, it says that the EC must conduct continuous registration and it says also that there must be a modality committee and that committee has been formed at IPAC.
So they expected NDC to be part, to be around so that they can all discuss issues that will take on board the interests of all stakeholders and they have reneged.
Mr. Nimako added that they would rather continue to call on the NDC to come back to IPAC for all parties to discuss.
The NDC has boycotted IPAC meetings since 2020, citing concerns about the EC’s neutrality and independence.
