The recent announcement on the change of cost for patients for daily dialysis from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is putting a lot of fear and panic in most Ghanaians especially those who are on dialysis for care and health treatment.
According to patients on dialysis, they were paying 380ghc for a section but now that it has shot up to 765ghc per section, most of them will go to their early gravies since the earlier cost was difficult to pay and the new charge, most of them will find it very difficult with this new increment?
The Public Relations Officer at Korle Bu Mr. Mustapha Salifu explains why the increment has become very necessary in times like this.
He further explained that all components that have to do with, drugs, electricity, gloves, water, glasses, and other valuables for dialysis were taken care of by the state but as it stands now, every essential for the treatment and daily care for all patients are items with tax exemptions; but now they must foot import duties and other taxes. So due to the issues stated earlier, if they continue to offer the dialysis at the earlier prices, very soon they will have to shut down the unit.
