The politicization of the police institution is very bad – Adib Saani

The Executive Director for Jatikey Centre for Human Security and Peace Building and Security Mr. Adib Saani, there is a concerted effort on the part of the government and the police to stop all demonstrations in the country till next year’s December presidential and parliamentary elections.

This he said, saying there is a state power play to control all the state institutions, such as the courts, the police, and its collaborators to discourage all forms of demonstration from now till next year. He made these remarks on the Adekye Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM in Accra. He stated this in response to the unfortunate brutality met by demonstrators yesterday by a group; Democracy hub.

He is of the view that human rights abuse reports from the US State Department on Ghana going in the country are very bad, with respect to violations of individual human rights and cases of alleged corruption are on the increase. The ongoing demonstration of unarmed civilians being beaten by police force is unfortunate. He describes yesterday brutality by the police yesterday as a day of shame.

He further stated that no power can be compared to people’s power, it is through the people’s vote that puts the president in power in every election cycle and there is a need for the government to listen to the plight and complaints of the reality of the hard economic situation Ghanaians are going through.

He is of the view that the silence agenda of the government to introduce the culture of silence into our political system cannot work since the voices of the will always hit hard on the reality going on in the country
The reality confronting the country now especially which has to do with alleged corruption, human rights abuses, and intimidation from the state institution can never be sustained in the face of deplorable economic conditions of the country.
