The Shama District Security Council and the Minerals Commission have discovered quantities of ammonium substances and some explosives in the tranches of Anto Aboso Quarry enclave.
This brings into question the safety of both workers and communities in the district.
The Ammonium substance and other explosives can only be kept by companies with permit in a designated area.
The Assistant manager at the Minerals Commission, Francis Annobil Junior in an interaction with the media said, they had an information of Ammonium Nitrates (AN) in one of the communities which triggered the operation.
He explained that, they couldn’t identify the particular area but they had an information this dawn there is evidence somewhere.
“As we speak now, we can’t tell which Quarry company owns those AN, we have to trace where these things are coming from” he added.
Meanwhile, the Shama District Chief Executive (DCE), Ebenezer Dadzie told journalist at the site that, “intelligence led to the discovery”
The DCE charged communities to play their civic role by reporting suspicious activities by operators in the area.
“if they have information of whoever is hiding explosives around the quarry site, they should volunteer information to us so that we will also act on it quickly in order for them to be safe, their lives is very important to us”
