The government’s spokesperson Kofi Tonto is asking the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) why they want to force a rejected candidate on Ghanaians come 2024.
According to him, the flagbearer of the NDC in the upcoming general elections, former President John Dramani Mahama has been rejected twice by Ghanaians in 2016 and 2020 therefore, he wonders why the NDC voted for him to contest again.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Ahotoronline.com, he indicated that what more is insulting to Ghanaians than presenting John Mahama for the presidency?
He said the Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has never vied for the presidency before for Ghanaians to pass judgment on him hence, he is more qualified to contest the presidency than former President John Dramani Mahama.
“Bawumia has not contested for Ghanaians to pass judgment on him but John Mahama has twice, Ghanaians have said we don’t want him but yet you have elected him,” he said.
His comment comes after the Director of Elections of the NDC, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe said NPP delegates electing Dr. Bawumia as flagbearer was an insult to the intelligence of Ghanaians.
In reply to this, Kofi Tonto indicated that, if that is the case then the NDC did it first by electing the former President to lead the party again.
