The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has urged the government to support farmers.
According to them, even though they are optimistic of bumper harvest in October and November, they appeal to the government to put in place strategic measures to transport foods from the farm gates to the market.
“…now that they are applying fertilizer, harvesting should start somewhere October-November. But even with that, once cost of production is up, there might be a surge in prices because no farmer want to run at a loss. He said.
He added, “if they have to sell at a lower price than the current price, it means they have they have to sell at a loss. And so I don’t expect to see any significant reduction in prices”
Speaking in an interaction with the media, the executive director of the Association, Dr Charles Nyaaba said, government swift effort in supporting farmers will reduce the cost and helps set competitive prices for consumers.
