Member of Parliament for Mpraeso constituency in the Eastern Region, Davis Ansah Opoku is asking his colleagues from the other side of the house why they will boycott parliament because of the President’s comment in Assin North during the just-ended by-election.
According to him, the elements of Parliament should not be seen stampeding another arm of government.
His comment comes after the minority in parliament through their whip, Kwame Agbodza Governs issued a statement boycotting parliamentary business to assist their Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Hon. James Gyakye Quayson to court in a form of solidarity on July 6.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu of Ahotor FM, the Deputy Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee in parliament asked: “Why should a comment by the President who does not control the judiciary lead to the NDC boycotting parliament”?
He said paragraphs 9 and 10 of a statement issued by the NDC talk about freedom of speech. Therefore, what stops the President to comment on an already campaign statement by the NDC?
“Are we now saying that as the President of the Republic, he does not have the right to talk on issues of national interest”, he asked.
