A renowned business magnet and a brother of Former President John Mahama Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has paid the entire bills of a student of Baatsona JHS B in Sakumono, a suburb of Greater Accra Region, Asantewaa who has been diagnosed of a “hole in heart disease over four 4 years and on the verge of loosing her life after going through thick and thin to raise funds to perform a heart surgery was unsuccessful.
However, In a move to solicit and court public sympathy to raised fund to the tune of about $9,000,000 which is equivalent to over 1 billion old cedis, to perform a heart surgery by doctors at the Korle bu Teaching Hospital ( Cardiothoracic centre ) In a letter signed by doctors at the National Cardiothoracic centre at the Korle Teaching Hospital in Accra and copied to Ahotor Fm through a facilitator, it stated that the patient need to undergo a heart surgery in order to cure a prolong heart disease which is having a deteriorating health condition over her life.
The mother of Asantewaa, a locally brewed pito seller in Tema, together with a girl child facilitator and a doctor including some teachers of Baastona JHS B through request made to Ahotor fm 92.3 in Tema Lashibi to assist them raise funds to enable the patient undergo a successful heart operation as a result of suffering a heart related condition known in medical terms as ” hole in heart”.
On Thursday class edition of Adekye Mu Nsem on Ahotor fm 92.3 . The Station use the show to appeal to corporate institutions and well meaning Ghanaians to contribute their widows mite to facilitate the operation on the frail – looking JHS B student who have endured the disease for over 4 years and her life according to an attached doctor who accompanied the team to the studio of Ahotor Fm said the condition of the patient demand urgent help to sustain the life of Asantewaa. He caution that the team is time bound to secure funds needed for treatment of the heart surgery latest before the end of June , 2023.
In an interview on the breakfast show on Thursday 22nd June , 2023, the patient who sounded very weak in appearance with difficulty in speaking which has culminated into hopelessness and dejection, said to Citizen Kofi Owusu on live radio that, her condition is worsening and her situation has assume a devastating and life – threatening and she is calling on Ghanaians for support. Through an emotional appeal and empathetic accounts, she called on the public to donate wholeheartedly to an advertised Account opened in her name Name, at the Agriculture Development Bank ( ADB Labone Branch in Accra via account Number = 125200016266650 in order for her life to be saved.
Meanwhile after some twenty – four hours of granting the emabttled family audience to tell their chilly story on the radio. A report emanated from the office of an acclaimed businessman and engineer by profession who doubles as founder of Engineers snd Planners, a multinational Construction and Mining Company through Mr. Emmanuel Victor Smith suggested that, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama had received the touching story of Asantewaa Darko through a broadcast by AHOTOR FM 92.3 FM and promised to make the full payments for the cost of surgery ($9,000,000) including all other expenses in performing the operation on the ” Hole in Heart” patient respectively.
The mother of Asantewaa Ernestina Yenkata, a resident in Tema Lashibi / Sakumono as well as some relatives sadened by the situation appeared very traumatised and helpless also called on the public to come to the aid of the brillant young girl who seemed to have suffered the disease for years without any hope in sight.
Madam Rita Akuribire, who described herself as the Girls Facilitator, upon hearing the information as announced in a telephone conversation with Nana Dogbe of Ahotor fm could not hide her joy and surprise as she hailed the former Ghana High Commissioner and the principal donor of the Fund , Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for coming to the rescue of the young girl whose life could not be quarranteed and sustained as a result of an ailment which has immobilized the patient for years now. The headmistress of Baastona JHSB Madam Akua Serwaa Yankey and some Teachers who accompanied the Esther Asantewaa and her family to Ahotor Fm 92.3 had earlier describe her as brillant, ambitious and deligent student and added that it will be a dream come through if she undergoes a successful heart surgery and return to school to continue her studies.
A former Ghana high Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Emmanuel Victor Smith, who was a guest on Thursday Class and witnessed the fund raising brief ceremony on Ahotor Fm pledge his maximum corperation and willingness to save the life of the Baastona JHS B final year student Esther Asantewaa Darko to regain prolificacy, and true to a promise made the likes of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama intervened timely to have the surgery perform for the fourteen (14) year old JHS patient for gratis.
Management of Ahotor Fm has learned that, the fully paid – for surgery by Mr
Ibrahim Mahama is scheduled to be conducted according to the family of Esther Asantewaa on Thursday 29th June, 2023 at the Korle bu Teaching Hospital’ Cardio department for treatment.
A close relation of the patient explained the ordeal the family had to endure every two weeks in seeking medical attention to support the fourteen years old girl who dream of becoming an influential personality in the society seemed uncertain due to a dreadful ill health situation. They contended that members of the family are financial challenges and mobilizing funds has been difficult due to the demanding nature of cost per week in undergoing numerous reviews to sustain Miss Asantewaa Darko’s life.
The Station shall update its cherised audience and benevolent donors regarding process leading to the Surgery by doctors at the Korle Cardiothoracic centre in Accra due course.
