The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tain Constituency (MP) in the Bono region, Sulemana Adama says he supports the comments made by the MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong on the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to use the Ghana card as the sole document to vote in the 2024 elections as bogus.
The outspoken flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong slammed the Electoral Commission (EC) over its decision to use the Ghana Card as the sole document for registration for the 2024 general elections.
The new Constitutional Instrument (CI) seeks to see the elimination of the guarantor system for all first-time registrants to the country’s electoral register.
But the MP in a media interview on a local radio station, Sompa FM, in Kumasi, indicated that the new CI laid in Parliament by the Electoral Commission is “bogus”.
He opined that it makes no sense that the Ghana Card would suddenly be raised above the Ghana Passport in determining the identity of citizens.
His comments come as a surprise as members of the NPP side in Parliament had constantly supported the EC in its move for the Ghana card to be used as the only source of identification for the voters register.
Reacting to this on Ahotor 92.3 Fm’s morning show, ‘Ade Kyi Mu Nsem‘, Tain MP Hon.Sulemana Adama said he supports the comments made by the Assin Central legislator and the biggest threat to Ghana’s democracy was before the 2020 elections where some documents like the Birth certificate and the Ghanaian passport was rejected in the process of acquiring the new voters card.
