KumAca death toll hits 4
The Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate, Cassandra Antwi has confirmed the death of another student of the Kumasi Academy SHS in what is suspected to be food poisoning.
This has brought the number of lives lost to four.
“We have a total of four,” she told Accra based Class FM in an interview Monday adding: “This student, we are told he went home without exeat. He had told his friends that he was going for school fees but after authorities checked, it turned out that he was not owing any fees.”
Over 200 worried parents stormed the Kumasi Academy Senior High School Friday night after their wards called them about a food poisoning incident at the school.
Students of the school reportedly demonstrated at the school demanding answers to the alleged death of three of their colleagues within the last ten days.
The students, according to sources, died at home after falling sick at school. They were said to have complained of a similar situation – food poisoning.
The agitation was, however, triggered after another student complained of a massive stomach ache on Friday.
Ten other students of the school are reportedly receiving treatment at the Garden City and Manhyia hospital for alleged food poisoning.
