Mustapha Sylla: Young Ivorian player dies after collapsing on the field
The death of Sylla, the young defender of the Ivory Coast team, collapsed on the pitch and was announced by the hospital officials not long after.
Mustapha Sylla lost his life on Sunday in a match in the 20th round of the Ivory Coast championship. The 21-year-old defender collapsed on the pitch during the RC Abidjan – SOL FC match.
According to CNN, Sylla was lying on the lawn away from the active game, not in contact with any of the opponents. Of course, the medical staff immediately rushed to him, but the defender, who had lost consciousness, did not react to the stimuli of the outside world even then.
After attempts to stabilize the talented back, they put him in an ambulance and rushed him to one of the properly equipped hospitals in the big city. However, the official announcement came relatively soon after his transport to the medical facility.
In it, they revealed that the death of the football player was counted from the moment he was admitted to the hospital, but in fact, he did not even show signs of life on the field.
The president of RC Abidjan, by the team’s nickname, said goodbye to a “lion” in a Twitter post, and according to him, Sylla died only on the way to the hospital. So far, there is no semi-official information about what could have been the cause of the football player’s death, but the comments testify to a sudden cardiac arrest.
Allegedly, even today, the medical and health conditions based on which soccer players and athletes who enter elite sports are screened neither in the Ivory Coast nor in Africa are not satisfactory.
In recent years and decades, countless professional footballers have lost their lives on the pitch. The latest infamous death in the world of football indeed happened off the pitch. Christian Atsu’s memorable tragedy is linked to the Turkish earthquake.
According to what appeared on the club’s official website, the funeral of the departed Mustapha Sylla was also held in his hometown, Dabou, on Monday.
