‘‘I originated azonto dance’’- Gasmilla

Ghanaian musician and originator of the famous Azonto dance, Odartei Milla Lamptey, known as Gasmilla has said again, that he is the originator famous  Azonto dance.

Speaking with Obaapa Janee on Ahotor Fm’s midmorning show, ‘Ahotor mmre’, he disclosed that he intentionally initiated the Azonto dance with the aim of promoting Ghanaian culture and as matter of fact the Azonto dance took over the world.

He said; I deliberately brought the Azonto dance just to show what we have as Ghanaians, through our various dances.’’

‘‘We are coming from different communities with different cultures and dances, and from where I come from, you see new dance coming each and every day, so I took this opportunity to sell what we also have as a community not only in Ghana but to the world.’’

According to him, dancing was a gift from God, so growing up he was always dancing and he practiced well. So when he released his first song ‘ Aboodatoi’, he decided to add some dance to it, to help promote the music.

He added; ‘‘growing up, my mom wanted me to be a doctor, and I know, my head wasn’t good so I decided to do music because that was where my strength was. But likely for me, my mom didn’t force me to.’’

However, Gasmilla has been working behind the scene with his ‘ Gasmilla Homowo Beach Clean-up exercise. A beach project, which he aimed at making our seashores clean as the ones we travel to go outside to see it.

‘‘Our beaches are dirty. Our surroundings are nothing to be proud of. I believe we must all join hands to promote proper sanitation, in the country.”
