(LISTEN): The Volta Lake is consuming Human Beings; And it’s been under reported by the media – Afraim Plains North MP

Member of Parliament for Afraim Plains North Constituency in the Eastern Region Hon. Betty Nana Efua Krosbi Mensah says the accidents on the Volta Lake needs much attention as it is taking away soo many lives.


Speaking on Ahotor Fm’s Morning show ‘Adekye Mu Nsem’ Hon. Krosbi Mensah said “The Volta lake is, I will use the word consuming human beings, and unfortunately its been under reported, the media is not highlighting it much”.


She said when those accidents happens, the number at times, the media reports are not true as they don’t capture the real facts.


“Not too long ago I meet the old Girls of Wesley Girls Senior High and one of the challenges they identified in our constituency was the many accidents on the Volta lake, some said recently there were about 7 people who drowned on the lake, I said no it wasn’t 7, more than 50 people drowned and it is at a go, its not like 1,1,1 it is at a go” She said.


The Afraim Plains North legislature also opined that the lack of network in most part of her constituency is also making matters worse as they can’t call the necessary authorities when there is accident because there is no call network in the area.


“Even when there is an emergency, calling NADMO and Ghana Police Service becomes problem as there is no network”.


But Hon. Krosbi Mensah said in finding solution to the accidents on the Volta lake, Her office in partnership with the Old Girls of Wesley Girls are currently negotiating with the telecommunication networks for network in the area.


“The old girls of Wesley Girls through their fund raising are negotiating with the Telcos and they have promised that we have been captured so very soon probably we will be getting some network connectivity on most of our Islands in the Afraim Plains North” She said.


Hon. Krosbi Mensah further promised that She will do all the needful in her capacity as a Member of Parliament to make sure her constituents also benefit from Ghana’s properties as they are also citizens of the land.
