EPL: Mourinho is highest paid manager
Jose Mourinho will earn almost double the amount of his rival, Pep Guardiola, during his first season at Manchester United. France Football claim the Portuguese will pocket an astonishing £24.2million this term, making him the highest paid manager in the world.
And that figure is nearly twice as much as Guardiola’s total of £12.5m, which includes his Manchester City salary and bonuses, plus commercial deals. Mourinho earns £15m a year at United, but he also has a number of big-money endorsement deals with companies away from his day-to-day role at Old Trafford.
The former Chelsea boss is the face of Heineken and also has agreements with the likes of Hublot watches, Jaguar, BT Sport, Adidas, Atlantis hotels and EA Sports. Those deals have helped him jump way ahead of Guardiola in the earning stakes, with the Spaniard involved in far fewer off-the-pitch activities.
Mourinho’s commercial popularity has helped him move ahead of Marcello Lippi, who earns a whopping £20.3m in his role as China manager. Despite being without a club since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Laurent Blanc remains third on the list of top-earning bosses.
The former France defender will take home £17.3m this season, which was the reported pay-off he received from the Ligue 1 giants. Between Blanc and Guardiola sits Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is enjoying a fine first season at the Allianz Arena. The ex-Real Madrid boss will earn £13.7m this season, just over £1m more than his predecessor Guardiola
. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the highest earning footballer in the world by France Football, with Lionel Messi coming in second.
