The National Chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has filed his nomination for his re-election as National Chairman of the NDC in the upcoming National Elections.
In the view of the NDC chairman, the party has become more attractive under his leadership which he needs to be retained to continue the good works he has done to help the party win the 2024 Elections.
Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo is facing a stiff competition from Johnson Asiedu Nketia who is for some strange reason ditching his General Secretary position for the chairmanship position.
Speaking to the media after filing the forms, Dr. Ampofo said working hard to bring the NDC to power in 2025 will be an honour in memory of his late mother Madam Mary Badu Gyawubea who passed away on the 31st October,2022 at the Koforidua Regional Hospital in the Eastern Region.
He said he has served the great NDC party from a young age as he will be celebrating his 30 years serving the party next year which is half of his days spent on earth and has contributed to the growth and development of the NDC and government in diverse ways.
He again said half of his life on earth has been dedicated to the service of the NDC party which earned him the appointed as a DCE at the young age of 29 in the year 1993.
Naming some of his services to the great NDC party, Chairman Ampofo said he is the longest serving National Organizer where he served for 9 years which he believes his plans played a major role in the NDC winning the 2008 elections.
He was a member of the National Reorganization Committee formed by the NDC in 2001 after their defeat to the NPP in the 2000 elections, a committee that was Chaired by Dr. Obed Asamoah.
He became the Director of Elections for the party before moving to become a National Vice Chairman.
In Government, Dr. Ampofo said “I have been a D.C.E, Deputy Minister, Regional Minister of the Eastern Region under the late J.J Rawlings, Local Government Minister and a Regional Minister under the late John Atta-Mills”.
He also served as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) under H.E John Dramani Mahama.
Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo opined that he assumed leadership of the party as the National Chairman when the future of the party was declining as they were coming from a painful defeat to the NPP in the 2016 elections.
But in just 2 years in office, together with his team of dynamic Executives, they increased their number of seats in parliament to 137 from 106 which he said “It has even become my name as I was in Tema West constituency to cast my ballot in the constituency elections, I was called by one supporter ‘Chairman 137′”.
On the Presidential numbers, he said “We were able to increase the numbers we got in the Presidential elections from 4.8million to approximately 6.3 million votes which was a significant results”.
He further said, they also worked hard to secure the position of the Speaker of Parliament a very first time the position is taken by someone from the opposition in the history of Ghana’s politics.
Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo believes the NDC would have had the majority number of seats in parliament if Nana Addo and the NPP didn’t use some illegal ways to take some of the seats from them.
He attributed the attractiveness of the party, the Peace in the party and the NDC becoming the favourite to win the 2024 by some experts to his leadership skills.
He also revealed that they are still in court fighting for the Techiman South, Sefwi-Wiawso, Essikado-Ketan, Tarkwa Nsuaem and the Zabzugu seats.
He expressed gratitude to the Vice Chairman of the NDC Alhaji Said Sinare, Former Ambassador to India and Sri Lanka who is the current President of the NDC’s Professionals Forum Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley who gave him the National Chairmanship dream in an Ethiopian airline, Ghana’s Former Ambassador to the UK Victor Smith and his friend Comrade Kofi Nyantakyi for their advice and support.
The NDC is expected to hold elections for national executives on December 17 and Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo says he is the best choice to steer the wheel of the NDC to victory in the 2024 General Elections so he needs to be retained and must be retained for the betterment of the GREAT NDC.
