The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has pledged to lead the party to win power in 2024.
Commenting on his chances of retaining his position as the leader of the party on Inside Politics on Power 97.9 FM, the former minister was confident of winning in the upcoming elections slated for December this year.
“A lot of party people have called and cautioned me that even if I fail to enter the race, they will collectively pick forms in my name and file on my behalf,” Mr. Ampofo told host Mugabe Maase.
The NDC national chairmanship race is between him and the current General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who recently announced his intentions to contest his chairman for the position.
Touted achievements chalked under his leadership, Mr Ampofo said the party under his leadership has managed to reduce the one million vote deficit it suffered in the 2016 elections as well as reclaiming lost parliamentary seats which has resulted in a hung Parliament.
He said his unique leadership style ensured that most executives worked collectively and delivered on their mandate given to them and ensured that Parliament had a Speaker who for the first time in history, was from an opposition party.
“I have been able to unify the party and made it attractive which played a key role in the party’s success during the 2020 polls,” he added.
To him, the policy documents to steer Ghana when the NDC win power has been impressive, stressing that Ghanaians see a saviour in the NDC.
He asked his supporters to ignore rumours that he does not have the party at heart.
“Mugabe, the good people of NDC gave me a mandate and I have delivered. They will reward me again to lead them into election 2020 and my focus is winning power for the party. I will not trade the party for anything; money or any material thing. Winning power in 2024 is my focus,” he assured.
