I have never regretted the decision I took at Ayawaso bye Elections- Ofosu Ampofo

The National Chairman of the NDC Hon Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has reiterated in an interview with Adekye Mu Nsem breakfast show on Thursday class edition that he have never regretted ever a collective descion he led to called off the 2019 Ayawaso West wuogon bye Elections amidst bruatilies unleashed by operatives of the National security on elections day.

The National Chairman of the NDC have come under barrage of criticisms by his detractors for not allowing the NDC members and voters meet the NPP and operatives of state security apparatus on war path after hundreds of voters perceived to be NDC sympathisers sustained varied degrees of injuries when confusion erupted.

But during a live encounter with the breakfast show team at his residence on Thursday October 6th,2022. Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo used the occasion to enumerate his achievements and his chances and strength as he seeks to retain the chairmanship position in the party in the upcoming party elections before the end of the year.

He touted both his academic and career portfolios and explain to host of the program citizen Kofi Owusu that he is a fierceless and very courageous personality contrary to claims by persons who wish he loose the upcoming contest that he is timid and possess an uninspiring persona.

He also noted that allegations that he caused the defeat by the party in the Ayawaso bye Elections in 2019 is factually inaccurate and recounted events which took place in the eve of polling which led to the NDC’s inability to continued with the electoral process.

The is quoted to have said that ” I have never regretted ever the descion by the NDC to withdraw from the elections on the day of voting “

The National Chairman of the NDC adding further noted that all those who are calling castigating him of defeat by the party does not what actually occurred but him it was imperative for the NDC not to participate in the elections due to brazen electoral thievery and bloodbath which marred the electoral system on the day of voting.

Explaining furthermore he situated his submission into a context where it became necessary for him to choose between life and death and whether or not it was appropriate for the party to loose the life of its members at the expense of electoral fortune which would have been counter productive. A dire situation the National chairman of the NDC said the obvious choice would have been putting the interest of the members and sympathizers of the NDC first and foremost before any other interest for that matter.

Chairman Ofosu Ampofo however belittled a long held notion that as the substantive chairman of the party he could not defend the integrity and sovereignty of the NDC as captured in the party’s constitution. A point he again flawed and cited several case studies to support his claims that he has been the best chairman so far.

Mention some notable persons in the party who were assigned in the Ayawaso bye Elections as emissaries and lauded their advise which according to him safe the party from further aggravating a very bizzar circumstances which could have resulted in death and excruciating pain on members of the NDC.

To the NDC National Chairman the NPP has totally destroyed the structures of the state security apparatus and regrouped them into a pseudo para military wing of government with a tacit matching orders against functionaries and members of the NDC as it prey and committed to the course of the NPP party.

He cited many examples his intervention have led to people having trust in the party due to some defining moment during which the NDC leadership under his watch proactively dealt with issues which could have been exacerbated and escalated but for his timely intervention nothing untoward happened.

Hundreds of bystanders and voters who sustained severe injuries from the mayhem which characterized the melee at the Ayawaso West wuogon bye Elections are yet to recover amidst non existing compensation packages by government after they received assurances from the state to cover their medical expenses and also pay for their loses as a result of innocently suffering from physical attacks in exercising their civic responsibility.

He called on Ghanaians to disregard act of treathery and fabrications aimed at tarnishing his image and said that his proven track record is visible for all to see and he has no doubt that having risen through the ranks and taking into cognizance of his political life and achievements the party would once again retain him to lead as the National Chairman of the NDC to recapture power from the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 General Elections.
