The leader of United Progressive Party UPP Mr. Akwasi Addae Odike is of the view that President Nana Addo together with Chiefs as well as Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies to assess the fight against illegal mining activities in the country is much ado about nothing.
The founder of the UPP in a submission he made on Adekye Mu Nsem breakfast show on Ahotor fm 92.3 on Wednesday took a swipe at government for being dormant and not living up to expectation in its resolve to stem the operations of Galamsey in the country which has assume a national discussion amidst widespread publications in both digital and traditional media space.
Mr. Addae Odike made these remarks on the breakfast show on Wednesday edition of Adekye Mu Nsem breakfast with Citizen Kofi Owusu.
President Nana Addo together with Chiefs as well as Resources persons and industry players and MMDCEs will be expected to be locked up in a crunch meeting to discuss the widespread of Galamsey Menace in the country.
However, the political social pundit who doubles as leader of United Progressive Party reiterated calls that, the lacadiscal attitude by government in the fight against illegal mining activities will not auger well and bring to an end the fight.
He stressed that the chemicals use in extracting the gold after prospecting has a hardazorous effect on the health status of inhabitants who may come into contact with these abrasives and chemicals.
He said though over 16 billion dollars of gold are smuggled out of Ghana annually the nation has not benefited in anyway from the sale of lawful transactions which pass through the channel and that calls for worry.
Mr. Odike lamented that it would be very difficult for the fight against illegal mining to stop so far as President Akufo Addo continue to remain as the President of the nation.
He said more innovative solutions need to be rolled out to check the menace of Galamsey instead of always resorting talk shop approach to tackle illegal mining in the country.
The Presidential hopeful further asserted that, he is the only man with the magic wand to stop the illegal mining activities if he is voted for as President in the next General elections. He said Ghanaians must shun both NDC and NPP since both pàrties have no better alternative arrangement to curb the development which have riddled most of the country’s forest reserve in the nation.
President Nana Addo and Manhyia together with stakeholders in the Mining sector are expected to draw a comprehensive plan which would be encompassing and stringent to end the fight of illegal mining activities in the natìon.
