Presbyterian Church of Ghana Anointed One Congregation Sakumono Celebrates 70th Anniversary

Reverend Timothy Victor Buobi, minister in charge, said the 70th anniversary was a time to reflect on the past and focus on branding the church’s future.

Looking ahead, Rev. Timothy shared a vision of progress for the church’s future, expressing hope that by the next major celebration, the congregation will have advanced to a new stage of development and impact.

A major focus for the church’s future is the youth development agenda. Rev. Timothy spoke passionately about creating a dedicated space for the youth where they can organize, lead discussions, and contribute actively to the church’s mission. Recognizing the strength and vision of young members, he insisted the youth deserve their own platform within the church to express themselves and have ownership of their faith journey. This initiative is intended to empower young people to take an increasingly important role in church leadership and community service.

Reverend Timothy Victor Buobi described the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Anointed One Congregation Sakumono as a city set on a hill that serves as a beacon of hope and support for the entire community. He emphasized that the church has grown beyond just a place of worship to become a central hub where community issues are addressed, and people gather for meaningful dialogue.

Rev. Timothy also underscored the importance of collaboration between the church, traditional authorities, political representatives such as the Member of Parliament (MP) and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and the wider community. He appealed for ongoing support and cooperation, highlighting that the church now functions as a kind of town hall meeting place—a space where community members come together not only for spiritual nourishment but also to discuss and address social and civic matters. This collaborative spirit is essential for the church to continue serving as a pillar of both faith and community development.

The vision laid out by Rev. Timothy reflects a church deeply rooted in its spiritual mission while embracing its role as a transformative community institution. With a strong commitment to youth involvement and strategic partnerships, the Anointed One Congregation is poised to build on its legacy and advance into a bright future of growth, influence, and service.

On his part ,Mr. George Asiamah, chairman of the 70th anniversary planning committee, highlighted the lasting legacy left by the church’s leaders, centred on the word of God taught from children’s services through to the adult congregation.

He noted the church’s journey from meeting in classrooms to now worshipping in a dedicated church building. Beyond physical growth, the leaders instilled strong values of good character and morals, a legacy the congregation vows to uphold forever.

Looking ahead, the church plans to build a three-story Children’s service block. The ground floor will host both children’s and Junior Youth services, the middle floor will house offices, and the top floor will be reserved for the minister’s residence. They hope to complete this project by their 75th anniversary.

The 70th anniversary celebration also inspired the youth, who often feel overlooked. It showcased the church’s rich history and the crucial role youth play in its future. This renewed focus aims to empower young members to take leadership in the years ahead.

Mr. Asiamah also emphasized the church’s embrace of modern technology, especially social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, to spread the gospel and engage the youth. With a strong social media presence, the church encourages young people to harness these positive tools for marketing and outreach.

To address youth unemployment, the church operates a fish farm managed by young members. Profits from fish sales help run the business and support the church. This initiative reflects the leadership’s commitment to job creation, continuing the tradition of building schools and churches by providing opportunities to young people.

Mr. Asiamah appealed to the Tema West MP, MCE, chiefs, and community leaders to support the church’s mission. He emphasized that investing in the church means investing in people of high integrity, promising reliable returns, and strong character development.
