Practice makes perfect for Coventry City’s Kwame Thomas after grabbing the winner against Port Vale

The striker bagged his third league goal during the Sky Blues’ win over Port Vale

Coventry City striker Kwame Thomas says his back heel finish against Port Vale was something he had tried before.

The 21-year-old grabbed what turned out to be the winner in the first-half after some neat improvisation in the box.

Following the game, Thomas said: “One thing that I said coming into the game was that I’ll keep following in to the goal in case a shot is spilled.

“It was a little behind me but I’ve tried similar things in the past by going for the back heel, and thankfully it has worked out for me tonight and gone in.”

The result saw City claim their first league double of the season, and also handed Mark Robins the first three points of his second tenure in charge.

Thomas added: “Since the manager has come in it hasn’t quite clicked in the attacking third.

“I think everyone bounced off each other tonight, if one pressed the others did as well. As a unit today we were good, and there was limited space for the opposition.

“It’s a great feeling to get the win, but at the end of the day, we’re still bottom of the league. It means nothing unless we go and take this confidence into the weekend.”
