The hero of Ghana’s 1972 Summer Olympics, Prince Amartey passed on at age 78.
The boxing legend was last year honoured by the Ghana Armed Forces for his exploits at the Munich Olympics which took the country another 49 years to win an Olympic medal in the sport.
“I am very happy that I have been honoured at last after serving the army and Ghana. Today, I will sleep well because I know I have not been forgotten,” the two-time Olympian told the Daily Graphic last year in August.
However, the sports broadcaster at GBC, Volta Star Radio in Ho, and Tilda Acorlor posted via Facebook confirmed the news on Friday.
The Ghanaian boxing legend had earlier participated in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, two years before his exploits in Munich.
