Ashanti Regional Chairman for Concerned Small Scale Miners, Michael Kwadwo Peprah has fumed over the government saying there is nothing like a fight against galamsey in the country as some claimed.
According to him, the only thing that we are fighting is to quiz some Ghanaians and take what belongs to them for foreigners to take over or to, be seized by government officials.
Adding that, President Nana Addo has failed for using his office as penalty for such crime.
Speaking to Ahotor News Anchor Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu (OYA) on Aisha Huang’s re- arrest.
He said, his Association felt so disappointed and what it means is that, the government is stabbing them from their back
Mr Peprah noted that, the issue of galamsey and foreigners is not only about Aisha Huang but, other foreigners are in our forest reserves.
The ‘galamsey’ kingpin, Aisha Huang, was arrested in 2017 for engaging in illegal mining.
The 47-year-old Chinese national was later deported in 2019 by the government, a move which triggered questions about Ghana’s commitment to eradicating the menace.
The announcement of her re-arrests and return to the country shocked many Ghanaians and has brought back the discourse on the country’s fight against ‘galamsey’.
Aisha and her three accomplices were, on September 2, charged with engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a license.
