The Ghana Cocoa Farmers Association together with it’s chief farmers in Berekum East Municipality of the Bono Region have called on the government of Ghana and the Cocoa Board as a matter of urgency to increase the price of cocoa from GHC 660.00 per bag to GHC 1000.00 in the 2022 – 2023 Cocoa season
Speaking at a press conference in Berekum, the secretary of the Association, Nana Kwadwo Buabeng explained to the media that, the high cost of fertilizers, agro inputs, fuel prices and the rise in transport fares has brought untold hardship and burdens on them
He explained that, Public Sector Workers have been cushioned with 20% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) but farmers have been neglected which they consider as highly unacceptable
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Association, Nana Kwesi Diawuo drew the attention of the government and the Cocoa Board to be aware that, Cocoa Farmers also patronize from the same market as other citizens and are also feeling the heat in the economy and are expecting the government to show commitment to assist them like they are assisting other businesses
