The Executive director of Ghana Integrity Initiative, GII an anti corruption body Madam Linda Ofori – Kwafo has express misgivings about the growing corruption in the country.
The GII bemoaned this during an interview on ahotor FM on Wednesday.
She made these on the back of a recent survey by the Afrobarometer which cited the Presidency and the Ghana Police Service as the most endemic in corrupt practices.
Madam Ofori Kwafo stated that, during the last 6 years of the NPP government and President Nana Addo have not prosecuted any member in government over allegations of graft.
She observe that, several individuals have been perceived as highly corrupt but nothing has been done about it by the presidency.
She remarked further that, there are mandated institutions to fight the canker but due lack of political will, the institutions have been dormant and rendered ineffective.
She describe the act as a threat to achieving confidence in the public financial management.
The executive director emphasize that, it is incumbent upon government to lead the charge against the embezzlement of funds by public officers and relevant sanctions taken to stem the act.
Government through the office of the Special Prosecutor, have begin investigating some public office holders cited for various degree of corrupt practices. OSP Kissi Adjepeng have given indication to prosecute persons found to be corrupt at the Presidency.
The Ghana Integrity Initiative , including , including stakeholders leading the fight against the menace have in recent times taken government to the cleanest over the fight against corruption in the country.
Madam Linda Ofori-Kwafo believes government ought to show commitment and proactive if indeed the state want to eradicate the menace in the country.
She said to Kofi Owusu, host of Adekye Mu Nsem, that, the findings are not surprising following evidence of similar outcome by other crusaders against corruption in the nation.
