The Executive Director of Parliamentary Network – Africa, Sammy Obeng has said to Citizen Kofi Owusu on Adekye Mu Nsem Morning Show on Ahotor FM (92.3) that Members of Parliament will see more of spontaneous agitations by their constituents ahead of 2024 Polls, following unfulfilled campaign Promises.
The comment by the Executive Director of the Parliamentary Think Tank became known during a telephone conversation on the ordeal Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu , encountered from his constituents over bad Roads in the Suame enclave.
Scores of disgruntled inhabitants sandwiched the Minister of Parliamentary affairs and mp for Suame , Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, over Neglect of his Parliamentary duties after several years of being the MP for the area.
The Aggrieved residents were captured on videos splashed on social media pelting pure water, and hooting at the MP and his entourage who were on familiarization tour of the Constituency to assess developmental Challenges and progress of work in the area.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Sammy Obeng explain that, the agitations and concerns raised by the feuding constituents are legitimate and need to be looked at.
He said the role of MPs are not limited to parliamentary duties alone but they have been elected to address challenges and concerns of the people.
Mr. Obeng further noted that, people are increasingly becoming upset and outrage due to disrespect by some elected MPs who cedes their role in the Constituency for only law making activities on the floor of the House.
According to him he has envisaged more of such disagreements between dissatisfied residents and MPs as the country prepares to go to the Polls in 2024.
He advise MPs to uphold their Parliamentary roles at the Constituency more seriously and also deliver upon their mandate.
The Suame lawmaker for some time has come under series of criticisms over non performance of his duties in the Constituency. The MP on several occasion has cited difficulties he is going through as a result of coordinating both Parliamentary work and duties at the Constituency.
Some Political Analysts have taken a swipe at Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for not delivering on his campaign promises after some 24 years of being representative of the People.
But for the timely intervention of the Suame Police command, the MP of the area would have been lynched by irate Youth and residents who said the MP has taken them for granted.
Mr. Sammy Obeng admonish lawmakers to heed to promises they make to people when they are seeking political office and need the people’s mandate to succeed.
