Arise Ghana Demo: Police arrest 3 protesters

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three protesters of the ongoing demonstration by the pressure group, Arise Ghana.

The three were allegedly picked up for their involvement in the tension that has characterized the demonstration.

Police during the chaos fired tear gas to disperse protesters who had hit the streets of  Accra over economic hardship in the country.

The protesters clashed with police around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle. As a result, the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange road has been closed, with no movement from either vehicles or persons.

Reports state there has been massive damages to some vehicles including a police van that was packed by the roadside in the process.

Earlier, there was a standoff between the police and protesters over the approved route for their march.

The organisers of the protest resolved to occupy the precincts of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle fountain over the disagreements with the Police.

The demonstrators had wanted to march towards the Ako Adjei Interchange and with a view to stopping at the Jubilee house but the police disagreed.

The armed men insisted on enforcing the orders of the court for the protestors to move through Farisco through TUC to the Independence Square.

Meanwhile, at least one police officer has been injured in the ongoing demonstration.

The Ghana Police Service has reported that its men that went to protect the demonstrators embarking on the ‘Krom Aye hye’ street protest have been attacked.

The Police stated on twitter that some protesters pelted stones at some of its men in uniform and condemned the act.
