Phil Foden crowned Premier League Young Player of the Year

Manchester City attacker Phil Foden has been awarded the Premier League Young Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season.

Foden, who turns 22 next Saturday, has managed nine goals and five assists in 27 Premier League games.

He achieved the same number of goals and assists when he won the award last season.

A first-choice starter in Pep Guardiola’s side, Foden has helped Manchester City to the brink of the Premier League title, which they will claim if they defeat Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The award was decided by a fan vote. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mason Mount, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Conor Gallagher and Tyrick Mitchell were the other nominees.

Speaking after winning the award, Foden said: “I am very proud to have won this award for a second season in a row.

“There are so many talented young players in the Premier League this season and it is a real honour to win it again.

“I have been really happy with my performances this season and it has been great to contribute to this team in what will hopefully be another successful year for us all.

“To be nominated alongside so many great players is an honour as they have all had great seasons for their clubs.

“I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to my development this season.”
