Partisan politics must be taken out of our education system – Educationist
An educationist, Daniel Fenyi says, partisan politics is the reason for the problems we are experiencing in the smooth running of the Free SHS policy
Speaking on Simpieso this afternoon, he stated that, there is the need for the flagship program to be reviewed
He said, every right thinking person will admit that there must be a review because the manner in which the policy is being rolled is problematic of which parents agree to it
In an interview with the host, Emmanuel Martey, Alaska De Don, Mr Fenyi alleged that, partisan politics is making it impossible for us to look at such a very brilliant nationalistic policy objectively which he said is a major problem
“The destiny and future of our children is dependent on our education and it determines how they turn out in future. For how long are we going to play politics with the future of our children” he asked
“Children have the right to education and it is a step in the right direction for the country to provide for the right of the child, however, no reasonable country provides for the luxury of it’s citizens”
Mr Fenyi urged the government to review the free SHS policy to make it possible for parents to take part of the cost in taking care of their children through secondary education
This, he said will relieve the government of certain financial burdens which seem to be weighing them down
His comment came following the call for a review of the Free SHS policy by the former vice chancellor of University of Ghana, Prof Ivan Addae Mensah who said the policy in it’s current form produces quantity and not quality
