Bullion van robbery: ‘if recruitment goes wrong, the effect is numerous’ – Nana Yaw Akwada

The Director for Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada has expressed worry on how we recruit people into the police service

According to him, people should be allowed to go through the process even when they are recommended by people of influential position

Speaking today on Simpieso hosted by Alaska De Don, Mr Akwada explained that, if we don’t check and make reforms on how recruitment and training of the police is done, it will affect the nation

“We all know how politicians, religious, traditional leaders and social influencers involve themselves in the recruitment of the police. If recruitment goes wrong, the effect is numerous”, he said

“Even in foreign countries, recommendations are made but I think proper checks and scrutinization must be done to prevent issues like these from happening”

His comment was in response to the arrest of two police officers who were alleged to be accomplice of a recent bullion van robbery

“The police administration is determined not to provide any cover for any policeman involved in such acts and that we will continue to provide general security in the country”, DCOP Kwesi Ofori had earlier said.

Meanwhile, two police officers who were earlier arrested in connection with the investigation are said to have died in a shoot-out when they led the police to another hideout of criminals involved in the crime.

The deceased officers are, Constable Reindolph Ansah and Lance Corporal Stephen Kwaku Nyame.
