More security at Dakpema after attack on chief and others

Police and military patrols in the Tamale metropolis have been intensified following the shooting at the Dakpema Palace.

The incident left the Dakpema Naa Fuseini Bawa and four others wounded and has raised tensions in the area with fears of counter attacks.

But the Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Supt. Bernard Baba Ananga says the police and the military have put in place measures to ensure calm in the area.

He said the police and military are also offering protection for the injured persons and all palaces in the metropolis as part of their plans to bring back calm and peace to the area.

“We are constantly monitoring, patrolling and also securing the place to ensure that nothing untoward happens. We are also on joint patrols with the military and we have beefed up security. We think we are adopting different methods and techniques to ensure security.”

“We are protecting all palaces within the metropolis. We have not made any arrests as at now,” he said.

Supt. Ananga further indicated that the police is pursuing some suspects who have been traced to areas outside the metropolis and are reviewing some video footage to identify more suspects connected to the crime.

“We trailed most of them outside Tamale, and we do not want to mention exact locations, but we believe we will get them arrested. We are also reviewing some footage to identify other suspects involved in this incident,” he noted.

All injured persons on admission are said to be responding to treatment.

Dakpema Naa, Fuseini Bawa has called on his supporters not to retaliate.
