A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Barbara Serwaa Asamoah says, the efforts put up by women in the positions they occupy has paved way for them to enjoy other opportunities
In an interview on Ahotor midday news, she explained, it has not been easy as women in the field of politics
“We really face bias in the field of politics as women. It is said that, women rallied behind Dr Kwame Nkrumah to achieve independence for Ghana, but looking at ministerial appointments and other political offices, women are few”, she said
“We are really forcing and it sometimes becomes like a competition with our male counterparts”.
She stated that, “because women are very determined and committed to whatever task given to us, I believe that is what has created more opportunities for us”
She encouraged women to build enough capacity to fit into well deserving positions
Her comment is in response to promoting gender equality as we celebrate International Women’s Day
This day is celebrated every year on March 8 to mark and celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and raise awareness about women equality and accelerate gender parity
This year’s celebration is under theme, ‘Breaking the Bias’
