The New transport fares of 15% was announced and took effect after negotiations between government and Transport Operators finally reached a compromise.
The new fares which began on 26th Febuary, 2022 covers all commercial transport namely, taxis,intra-city (ro-tro) and intercity (long distance) passengers buses.
Speaking on Ahotor Fm “Asem yi Di Ka” the Deputy secretary In charge of Operations for International Drivers And Road Transport Union Nana Owuredu said the increment according to the group is in line with the administrative arrangement on public transport fare and explained that, after intense negotiations with Stakeholders and in consideration of the plight of drivers, commuters and the general public.
Asonaba Nana Owuredu ,cited current trends on the international market and its impact on domestic fuel prices and the decision to increase transport fares has been necessitated by the hardships in the country.
He also added , that Various transport association bemoans the high cost of fuel, high import duty on vehicles, increase in the cost of spare parts and vehicle lubricants as among the reasons.
He appealed to commercial drivers to take it easy on their passengers taking into account the repercussions and agitations the new fare cause between conductors and passengers.
