Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, says the ban on waste tricycles also known as Aboboyaa on major streets and highways will take effect by June 2022 after the construction of waste transfer sites in parts of Accra.
The ban on the movement of tricycles on the Accra-Tema Motorway, in particular, is in force.
The Minister expressed believe that the construction of waste transfer sites in various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the capital will be completed by the end of June 2022.
According to him, the successful completion of the transfer sites would facilitate a total ban on the use of waste tricycles on principal streets and the highways in Accra.
The Minister gave the assurance during an interaction with the media.
“We have engaged the assemblies and a waste management company is assisting us in constructing a transfer site to move the ‘Aboboyaa’ [waste tricycles] off the principal streets. We hope by the end of March 2, 2022, a few of them will come off, and by midyear, all of them will be ready.”
