Government must sit up – Hon. Nortsu-Kotoe fumed

In reference to a media reports by Kwame Saga Kayi in request made to the ruling government to subject the Popular “FreeSHS” policy to a structure review five (5) years after it was implemented.

Considering the high non- enrollment rates, the government of Ghana introduced the Free Senior High Schools policy in September 2017 in pursuance of article 25(1b) of the 1992 Constitution which provide that “Secondary education in its different forms, including technical and vocational education, shall be made.

The popular TV and radio Personality noted that, government and stake holders in the education sector need to deliberate on fine a tuning aspects of the program. He said parents who are financially capable should be made to pay for their kids and also calls for the cancellation of buying past question for students but in an interview with the member  of Parliament for Akasti- North and ranking member on the Education Committee in Parliament  on Ahoto FM’s ” Asem yi di ka” hosted by Teacher Kojo on Monday 28th February 2022 .

The legislature called on government to sit up and review the whole educational sector right from teacher’s need to the environment but what is happening in the sector is not about free tuition fees because government pays both teaching and non-teaching staffs but the problem is feeding every student without them paying anything and the cost is too much for government to bear because students before pay for some expenditures but not tuition fees.

  He concluded by saying the Senior Journalist and a board member of the National Petroleum Authority’s(NPA) call on government to review the  Free S.H.S policy is a mere propaganda, and noted that the matter would be raised on the floor of Parliament for further deliberations.
