Theo Bongonda is expected in Kinshasa from March 6, 2022 to obtain his DR Congo passport to be able to play in next month’s World Cup play-offs vs. Morocco.
Bongonda has been playing since the summer of 2019 under the colors of KRC Genk and is regularly associated with the Diables Rouges.
However, although the 26 year old’s mentioned regularly by the media, he never obtained the slightest summons from the federal coach Roberto Martinez. Since he also has Congolese nationality, Théo Bongonda now seems to be heading towards this selection.
A choice which would not yet be definitively ratified after the friendly meeting during the internship, since only official matches are taken into account to “validate” a nationality on the sporting level. As long as he has not played an official match for the DRC, Théo Bongonda is still selectable by Roberto Martinez.
The former Belgium U19 & U21 player has 9 goals in 25 matches for KRC Genk in the Belgian League this season.
