President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to restructure their financial, operational system and targets to align with the government’s new initiatives to promote growth.
President Akufo-Addo said a lot of work needed to be done at the Assemblies and challenged the MMDCEs not to rely solely on the common fund allocation but devise strategies to generate enough funds to execute their planned and approved projects.
He also urged them to apply the common fund judiciously and warned that “it is not for recurrent expenditure and should not be used misused or abused.”
Commenting on this, the Chamber of Local Governance (CHALOG) has welcomed the directive.
Executive Director of the Chamber Dr. Richard Fiadomor says the move is in the right direction since it will compel the assemblies to be creative in raising funds.
