We need $3M to be able to cater for the clubs – Spokesperson

The Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association Henry Asante Twum has claimed that in order for the FA to take care of the clubs properly, they (FA) will need about $3 million per annum.

The Ghana Premier league is without a headline sponsor for more than three seasons now and the financial burden on the clubs in their day to day running continues to increase.

Asante Twum stated that although it has been difficult getting such an amount from sponsors, the FA is doing all things possible to get one and has engaged lots of sponsors in that regard.

“The truth is that we have embarked  on aggressive selling including myself.I have on some occasions meet prospective sponsors.I have sat in meetings with the president of the GFA speaking to clients and all these engagements sound positive but sometimes things delay due to certain reasons for instance a lot of companies have cut their budget and spending power because cash inflow has not been the best though we will not use Covid-19 as an excuse”.

“We are working. It is not easy these days to walk to a client or a sponsor and demand a sponsorship worth $3million a year because we need $3million to be able to take very good care of all the clubs”.

Ghanaian clubs are on the heels of the FA to get them a headline sponsor by the end of the season; a request Henry believes is too much pressure and timelines shouldn’t be given on the issue although they are in the process.

“We cannot give a timeline to whatever we are doing,we believe the effort that our marketing team is putting together will yield fruitful results soon”.

The Ghana Football Association has Melcom, Woodin, Macron and NASCO as sponsors for the league, it’s still struggling to get a headline sponsorship for the country’s premier competitions.
