FIFA approves four candidates to compete for CAF presidency

FIFA clears all four (4) candidates to contest the CAF Presidential elections scheduled for 12 March 2021 in Rabat, Morocco.

South African Patrice Motsepe and Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya have been cleared to run for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) presidency despite previous doubts over the duo’s eligibility.
Fifa’s Review Committee has said both men can contest the 12 March elections in Morocco
 They wil contest Ivorian Jacques Anouma and Senegal FA president Augustin Senghor.

A CAF statement on January  8, said ‘further checks were necessary before a final decision’ on Motsepe and Yahya, who has led Mauritania’s FA since 2011.

A day later, Caf’s interim president Constant Omari organised an Emergency Committee meeting whereupon it was stated that Fifa would determine the candidates’ eligibility

Motsepe, who is ranked the tenth richest man in Africa by Forbes and owner of South African club Mamelodi Sundowns is tipped by a section of the African football fraternity to win the election. 

In other developments, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has been cleared to contest for a seat in the FIFA Council at the elections slated for March 12 in Rabat, Morocco.
