Greater Regional Organizer of the largest opposition party – NDC Anthony Nukpenu has debunked the notion that, the recent attacks in the Volta region group as seeking the independence of the Volta region.
According to Mr Nukpenu, there is no Secessionist group anywhere but, a coup plotting people who are imitating the Homeland Study Group Foundation
He said, the accusation by some political leaders about the Homeland Study Group Foundation is unfounded.
In a discussion on a local radio in Accra, Mr. Nukpenu said the agenda of the secessionists is not the independence of the Volta region but riot –causing group to destabilize the peace of the region and the country as a whole.
He was optimistic that, the security agencies have the capability to deal with the issue, and may not need to constitute any other body to deal with the insurgency.
It can be recalled that barely three (3) weeks ago a group – Western Togoland Homeland Study Group blocked various roads leading to the Volta region.
The group took hostage of some police men in their custody, leaving many injured with one (1) death and properties destroyed.
The group had police equipments like guns, cars, motor bikes and went on to burn some buses at the Ho branch of the State Transport Corporation (STC) station.
