Tamale patients angry with directive to pay for drugs covered under NHIS

The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has issued a directive asking patients who access the facility to pay for non drug consumables captured under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The directive which came in a memo said with effect from Monday 16  January 2017, non drug consumables would be available for sale to patients at the specialist pharmacy located at the Out Patient Department entrance.

It added that the dressing packs will however be kept for sale to patients at the Central Sterilization Supply Department.

The Memo also directed that patients pay to the HFC cash payment point with the quantities needed written on their folder for payment and the receipt sent to the supply point.

When Joy News contacted the Public Relations Office of the TTH Mohammed Misbour he said a counter memo had been issued asking patients to disregard the earlier memo issued.

However Joy News checks at the facility show the patients are still been asked to pay for drugs covered under the NHIS.

One of the patients who spoke to Joy News said the development is unfortunate.
