Independent investigative body will salvage the credibility of WAEC – NAGRAT
Following the recent leakages of some examination questions and malpractices by some students and teachers in some schools across the country, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is calling for an independent investigative body to look into the reoccurring examination malpractices.
Moreso, education think tanks -Africa Education Watch has also raised an alarm bemoaning massive leakages of examination papers.
The West Africa Examination Council(WAEC) in recent years seem to be losing its credibility in organising examinations in the sub region.
In the ongoing West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination(WASSCE),most candidates feel having the questions and solutions before writing is justifiable.
Typical examples are the happenings which took place in Tweneboah Kodua SHS, Battor SHS, Juabeng SHS to mention a few, where candidates had to demonstrate, vandalise school properties, and use provocative and abusive words on school authorities and the president of the nation because of failed expected Integrated Science question papers.
These candidates felt disappointed by the authorities and the government because to them, not writing questions they expected was a failure on the part of the school authories.
Though the president H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo engaged the management of Ghana Education Service(GES) on the 10th of August 2020,to review sanctions imposed on the candidates who misconducted themselves after the Integrated Science paper but maintained the earlier disciplinary actions taken by GES.
Core Mathematics question paper 2 and solutions were seen circulating on social media prior to the exams date.
In preparing for an examination, past questions, Chief Examiners Report and Syllabi are resources to guide candidates but it is not enough grounds to stop studying what is been tought by the teachers.
The president of National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT),Mr Angel Kabornu is therefore calling on an independent investigative body to look into all these happenings.
He believes it is the only way to salvage the deepen credibility of the sub regional examination body (WAEC)
