Ghana Statistical Service has revealed that 2 million households in the country have reported that their total household income has reduced since March 16 due to Covid-19
This makes up 74.4% of the total household population of the country. This was contained in a survey conducted with a sample size of 3,265 households
Greater Accra was reported to be the least affected while the Upper West, Bono and Bono East recorded the worst-hit households
Government Statistician Prof Kwabena Anim said, “Close to 2 million persons in Ghana indicated that they did not work due to Covid-19 related issues specifically between the period 3rd June and 9th June 2020 more than one million persons in Ghana indicated that suspension of work was the reason for not working. Again this is of particular emphasis for us because it gives us the opportunity to think through those who voluntary did not work and those who involuntarily did not work.”
“If you work with an organisation that has suspended work then it was out of your control it means it was issues of involuntary suspension of work.”
“Nationally 74.4% of households reported that total household income has reduced since March 16, this relates to about 22 million Ghanaians were affected by the reduction of income as a result of Covid-19.”
