Former ace broadcaster and CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Gideon Aryeequaye has challenged the decision to deploy soldiers in the Volta region with the intention of keeping Togolese from registering for the upcoming general elections.
The former broadcaster speaking on Ahotor 92.3 FM’s Simpieso hosted by Abraham Cobbinah aka Kakaiku said history shows that people in the Volta region and parts of Togo are related and are as Ghanaian as can be.
He traced the origins of many tribes in Ghana from their migrations from either the Middle East or other parts of Africa. He also referred to various scenarios where Ghanaians in the Volta region could be living in Togo but that does not take away their lineage as Ghanaians.
Adding his voice to that of many Ghanaians who are lamenting the heavy military presence in the Volta region which is perceived as intimadatory tactics to prevent the supporters in the region from registering to vote, Mr Aryeequaye challenged the basis for the attempt to disenfranchise many Ghanaians.
He also bemoaned the apparent silence of the media in speaking against whta he described as issues warranting the media’s attention.
The former CEO of the GTA was a parliamentary aspirant for the NDC in the last primaries of the party in the Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom constituency of Accra.
