The EC’s legal basis for excluding the current voters ID card is a joke – Ivan Kyei Innocent

As ordered by the Apex Court of the land the Supreme Court,  the electoral commission has furnished the supreme court with what the commission describes as legal basis for excluding the current voters id card as source document for registration in the EC’s upcoming registration exercise which has generated many controversies in the country.
Speaking on Ahotor fm’s evening political show program dubbed ” Asem yi dika ” with Alaska De Don, a communication team member of the NDC, Ivan Kyei Innocent expressed utter shock and disappointment over the material content the EC has submitted as legal basis for excluding the current voters ID as a requirement.
“After reading excerpts of what the EC has sent to the supreme court as legal basis, I was so shocked and I’m convinced that if we are not careful, we may all loose sight of the greater picture , I strongly remember the EC boss should be referred to a psychiatry specialist for review, so that we will all be on the same page that we are dealing with someone whose sanity is intact , because from what I read, I’m filled with a lot of doubts and questions , let me very honest with you, the EC’s legal basis for excluding the current voters id is a joke “
The EC was instructed by the Supreme Court to submit to the court legal basis for excluding the current voters ID as a requirement for a new one which the commission has set before C.l 126 before parliament and in that C.l the EC is seeking to rely solely on NIA card and Passports as requirements. A case was filed at the supreme court by the NDC challenging the EC in this regard.
Ahotoronline.com has sighted a response from the EC and in that response the commission has questioned the legal credibility of the voters existing ID.
According to the EC, voter ID cards obtained under three different constitutional instruments in the past were legally faulty and cannot proceed to do a new register by relying on such a card. These constitutional instruments include C.I 12, C.I 72, C.I 91.
The commission’s response has generated a new wave of controversy within the media, the question many people are asking is  whether or not various presidents and parliamentarians elected into office using same ID’s including Ghana’s current President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo were illegal.
