George Afriyie
A former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie has raised issues with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Ghana football. Mr Afriyie was speaking on GTV on the financial implications of covid 19 on Ghana football.
The former Executive Committee member of the GFA raised lots of questions about the impact of Covid-19 on Ghana football as he believes lots of club owners rely on their personal businesses to support their clubs.
“Most of us run our clubs with our personal money from other businesses and since all businesses have been affected , we are financially down,” he claimed.
When asked about the resumption of the Ghana Premier League, he said, “When football will start depends on the Government and not the Ghana Football Association.”

“As it stands, we all don’t know when football will resume but if it does, then it’s important to look at the aftermath of the pandemic”, he concluded
The President of Okyeman Planners continued that, sponsorship for our local game has been a major problem even before the corona virus and it is important to know how we will get sponsorship for our football after the pandemic.
George Afriyie was relieved of his post as the vice president of the GFA just before the Anas expose in June 2018.
He was also a presidential aspirant for the GFA election last year but lost to the current president Kurt Okraku.
