NUGS bares teeth at govt over their student loans
The National Union of Ghana Students NUGS has given government a five (5) day’s ultimatum to release loan arrears for students on the student’s loan trust fund.
The student’s body has warned that if the arrears are not paid by June 2, 2020 they will march to the Jubilee house to press on their demand. At a press briefing in Accra, President of NUGS Mr. Isaac Sayhyde indicated that, any further delay of the payment will have dire consequences on the student in the wake of COVID 19.
The Students Loan Scheme is a financial arrangement under which Ghanaian Students enrolled and pursuing approved courses in tertiary institutions in Ghana are granted loans to assist with the financing of their education/
However, there have been delays in the release of such funds, which in many occasions, is the main support for some students in the pursuit of their education.
They are also calling on government to lift the ban on public gathering for students in the final year of their course, but have had to terminate it due to the covid -19 pandemic.
